Dreamweaver to Joomla conversion? Start Newer 1 Older End 1. I'm working with someone who is VERY comfortable with dreamweaver. Work on a local copy of a live site. Get it right. Regardless of whether it is a dynamic content site or a relatively static one. Take care, Mike. Post by JoeJoomla » Sun Oct 24, pm It's been a long time since I posted in the forums and today while browsing this caught my attention.
Of the clients that I have built Joomla! My observation has been that Dreamweaver users who try and apply their Dreamweaver concepts to Joomla! You are far better off to approach Joomla! You need to 'unlearn' Dreamweaver because it will get in the way of your understanding Joomla! It's only because I have a copy of Dreamweaver and it can be useful for some things but I will never build a site in Dreamweaver and haven't for a very long time.
This brings me to a concept regarding modern technical literacy that I would like to propose to you: Up until the modern era of computers literacy meant that a person could read and write and to be illiterate meant that you could not. Nowadays in our western civilization most people attend school and learn to read and write at an early age. Today I suggest to you that there are many people who struggle with illiteracy in a different way.
Things move so fast today, software languages and tools are created that enhance our lives in a great way, and if you fall in love with your tool you will get stuck and become technically illiterate. So literacy to me today means the ability to learn something, and then unlearn it to be able to learn something else that supersedes what you previously knew and understood. If you can't let go of Dreamweaver concepts you will struggle with Joomla. Dreamweaver will never be able to do what Joomla!
It makes no sense to hang onto Dreamweaver as your software development tool unless you have no intention of building large and sophisticated websites. I don't dislike Dreamweaver. This is not something to take as a personal affront to a tool you use and know. This is to help you get over a possible impediment to your progressing in building much better websites in the future. I'd personally use Joomla to save myself from tedious work of creating webpages, and Dreamweaver to do the overall site design. Indeed, a web design software it offers much more control but you don't have the same possibilities like Joomla. A CMS can be used easily by a non technical person. A software like Dreamweaver is very difficult for a non technical people. Post by xpelumi » Thu Oct 28, am Such a nice discussion going on.
I've now gained quite some tips in approaching Joomla. I have been using DreamWeaver and just started with Joomla yesterday.
To be honest, I am progressing progressively. Quite a nice framework and I think its easier to use for a great site. And DW could never compare to what Joomla can do. All website must be read by browsers so it brings all things to the language they are using.
